Terrible pun aside House of Spirits is a diptych of two ex-neighboring buildings in Newbury Park, CA. The first/top is the Stagecoach Inn which was built in the centennial 1876 as a way point on the trail connecting Los Angeles to Ventura. Due the the steepness of the Oxnard grade, the trail was diverted to near Fillmore, and the several years after its completion the Inn transitioned into something of a resort. In 1965 the construction of the 101 freeway required the Inn to be moved 1/4 of a mile up the hill to its current location. If you look on the Stagecoach Liquors (second/bottom) sign, you can see that it was established in 1964, spending only one year as neighbors. In 1970 during the Inn's remodeling it burnt down, leaving only the chimney. It was rebuilt to look like the initial Inn, and re-opened in 1976, on century after it's initial completion. During its heyday a local basque sheep herder named Pierre was after an argument at the Inn by a local cattle-man. It is said that his ghost still frequents the Inn despite its relocation and reconstruction and has had over 40 sightings in the past decade.

Lovers Leaps

Looks like I haven't posted here in a while! I thought I would post the install shots of the two finalized images from the "lovers leap" series. I was initially interested in the lovers leaps because of the transition from mile marker or geographic icons into exotic legend that also act as literal "romantic landscapes". I also liked the way that folklore gets translated into permanence by being added to google maps and other online archives. Though I already knew of two lovers leaps (pictured) from road trips in my youth, I began typing in "lovers leap" and then adding different California zip codes and having google maps direct me to the nearest added Lovers Leap. As of now I have found 2 other Leaps (one pictured in the install) and plan on (re)photographing them in the coming months.

here at USC. It will be in the Photo Lab side of the IFT building (Grad Building)

Here is another photograph from last year. It comes from a series of 5 posters that were purchased from ebay or found in a dumpster. This image is in fact a one off of the original poster from the x-files that hangs on mulder's office wall. If you watch the show after the first season the poster changes due to the original poster being lost/stolen. During later seasons FOX made a second poster that became mass produced. But because of a need that was not being supplyed by FOX a lot of fake posters were made.
